Submit your corner aquarium review
If you own a Biorb Classic Aquarium we'd be delighted to hear about your experiences.  Please submit a review on our Corner Aquarium Review Form - we look forward to hearing from you.
Although not specifically designed as a corner aquarium, the Biorb looks great in the corner of any room - probably better than it looks anywhere else in our view.

The aquarium is manufactured in high grade acrylic by Reef One Limited, a British company based in Norwich and founded in 1998 by a father and son team,  Paul and Matthew Stevenson.  The Biorb itself has been around since 1999 when the first 8 gallon version was introduced and since then it has undergone considerable refinement in the face if its ever increasing popularity.  The fundamental idea behind the Biorb is to keep fishkeeping easy and economical as while maintaining a satisfactory environment for the fish - something of which we are very much favour.

The Biorb is suitable for both coldwater and tropical fish.  As standard. the tanks feature integrated lighting and filtration which are operated from a 12 volt transformer for safety and peace of mind. Depending on the package purchased, heating may be supplied.  If not 50 and 100 watt heater upgrades are available, the 50 watt for Biorbs upt to 60 litres and 100 watts for the 105 litre version - although we'd actually recommend a 100 watt package for the Biorb 60 as well as we feel 50 watts may not be enough for this volume of water, particularly in a cooler room.

Today four versions of the Classic Biorb are available all of which feature the same spherical design and low maintenance filtration system;

The Biorb Baby

With a useful 15 litre capacity the Biorb Baby aquarium is, as the name suggests, the smallest in the range.  It is suitable for use with a small number of either cold water or tropical fish and is very popular as a gift.  It's a compact 12 inches (30cm) high by 12 inches in diameter - ideal for a small space - and weighs aproximately 16 kilograms when full.

The Biorb 30

The Biorb 30 is the next step up from the Baby Biorb with a capacity of 30 litres, overall dimesions of 16.5 inches (42 cm) high by 15.7 inches (40 cm) wide and a filled weight of approximately 31 kilograms.

Although the overall measurements aren't that much bigger than the Baby Biorb, the double capacity means we'd recommend the Biorb 30 over the Biorb Baby if you have the room.  As with all aquariums, the larger the volume of water the less problems you should experience with temperature variations and water pollution.  You'll also be able to fit in a more varied selection of fish - and the Biorb's integrated filtration system means maintenance requirements should remain more or less the same.

The Biorb 60

Double the capacity of the Biorb 30, the 60 litre volume of the Biorb 60 makes it ideally suited to more advanced fishkeeping than the smaller models while still retaining the integrated low maintenance lighting and filtration systems.  The manufacturers suggest that the Biorb 60 can even be used for marine tropical fishkeeping although our own view is that a 60 litre capacity is at best borderline for this.  Nevertheless, the Biorb 60 is unquestionably a step up from the Biorb 30 and will allow you to keep a wider range of larger and more advanced species of fish, either coldwater or, with the appropriate heating upgrade, tropical.

The tank measures up at 20.4 inches (52 cm) high x 19.6 inches (50 cm) wide - not large external dimesions in terms of the volume but enough to create a stunning feature in the corner of your room.  The weight of the Biorb 60 when full will be approximately 61 kilograms.

The Biorb 105

The heavyweight of the Biorb range, the Biorb 105 holds a massive 105 litres in a spherical tank measuring 24.8 inches (63 cm) high by 24 inches (60cm) wide.  Its filled weight of 113 kilograms should be kept in mind when deciding a suitable stand/support.  Stands specifically designed for the Biorb 105 are available (see above) but aren't always easy to find.

The 105 is a substantial tank suitable for coldwater and tropical fish and its 105 litre volume makes it worthy of consideration for tropical marines also.  It features the same integrated filtration and lighting systems as its smaller siblings and a 100 watt heating upgrade is available if you're looking to keep tropicals.  It takes up more space than a smaller model but if you have the room a Biorb 105 will give you a striking feature and talking point.

In Conclusion

All in all the Biorb has its detractors but if you're looking for something slightly different, self contained and with a reasonably low maintenance requirement who's to say it isn't the tank for you?  The smaller models in particular make great gifts and while we're looking at the Biorb in the context of a corner aquarium it's at home more or less anywhere in a room.  You should remember though not to site it where it will receive direct sunlight as the curved surface can cause problems with overheating.

If you're looking for a Biorb Classic you'll find plenty of sellers and a range of prices above.

Happy hunting
